Key Achievements

  • Helped CCO transform their Foundations Department to build their departmental infrastructure and diversify revenue streams by developing capacity to win U.S. government grants.

Innovation for Foundations

We were brought on to identify impediments to success and opportunities for growth within CCO’s foundations department.

Their goals:

  1. Transform the foundations department to align with the broader goals of the organization.

  2. Build departmental infrastructure and diversify revenue streams by developing the capacity to pursue, win, and manage grants from larger foundations as well as U.S. government grants.

What we did

  • We conducted interviews with the current MX team and leaders from across the organization, as well as funders and partners, to explore:

    • organizational practices and structural barriers

    • CCO’s readiness to pursue US government grants and opportunities to shape CCO’s strategy and approach

  • Through a strengths assessment of the foundations department, interviews with CCO staff, and conversations with outside experts, including a former, we assessed: key skills, strengths, weaknesses, and opportunities to strengthen departmental capacity to become more competitive and win large foundation, and U.S. government, grants.

About

Cross Catholic Outreach (CCO) disseminates over $300 million in international relief aid to provide food, housing, medical care, education, orphan care, water, emergency relief, and microenterprise in 28 countries in Africa, Asia, the Caribbean and Latin America. We provided consulting to help them increase their impact and diversify their funding portfolio by cultivating new like-minded foundations and exploring the implementing partnerships for U.S. government grants.
